For your viewing pleasure, a picture from my trip to Fort Sumter yesterday. In order to get to the fort, you take a 20 to 25 minute ferry ride out to Fort Sumter and you get about an hour to walk around the grounds of the fort. Pretty amazing. One picture doesn't tell the whole story. I'll have more up later on today. Someone I can't remember who asked me about the "anchorman" running for Congress in the 26th. Looks like that won't be happening. And an article in today's New York Times say

The Save the Date email for my bachelorette party went out yesterday! We are going to spend a few days on the lake in lovely Coloma, Michigan. Mr. Peacock??s family has a condo right on the lake, with a party boat in the dock and a hilarious townie bar within walking distance. There isn??t a place where I feel more relaxed and happy. I can??t wait to spend a few days lounging around in swimsuits, drinking margaritas with all my favorite girls. I love it too because it will be pretty inexpensive -?

I??ve been at the new Ikea today and I??m exhausted so this will be brief and quite possibly incoherent. On Saturday we went to Fort Sumter. I considered staying at the condo alone because military history is so not my thing. I decided since this is a family vacation the whole family needs to show up. Originally published July 20, 2003 The drive from where I live to Charleston is about an hour and a half, and it's pretty where Highway 17 curves through the salt marshes and tidal creeks. Lowcountry Georgia and South Carolina is beautiful, and I love the fecund smell of salt, marsh grass and mud. When you cross the bridges, you almost always see a small boat with somebody on board casting for shrimp, dipping crab nets or fishing. Sea food is "WE FOOD!" around here. The water is our garden.
